The Okamoto Philosophy: Supply the Correct Technology
A Legacy of Sincerity Since the company’s foundation, Mr. Kakusaburo Okamoto established a guiding principle that remains our official corporate policy today: “Supply the Correct Technology.”
For Okamoto, “Correct” is more than just a word; it is a commitment to sincerity. It means avoiding manufacturing tricks or short-cuts. It means possessing deep professional knowledge to complete each job perfectly. We believe that by pursuing advanced engineering and precision manufacturing with integrity, we not only obtain optimum customer satisfaction but also contribute meaningfully to society.
Over 90% In-House Production
How do we guarantee “Correct Technology”? By controlling it ourselves. While many manufacturers today function primarily as assemblers of outsourced parts, Okamoto refuses to compromise on quality. We are proud to state that over 90% of Okamoto machine production is completed in-house.
This exceptional level of vertical integration allows us to take full responsibility for every micron of precision. From the raw materials to the final control logic, we do not rely on third parties — we rely on our own expertise.
Integrated Production System
Our “Total Grinding Solution” is built on the fact that we create the critical components that define machine performance.
Foundry & Castings
We pour our own castings in our dedicated foundries. This allows us to strictly control the structural integrity and vibration-damping properties of the machine base from the very start.
Precision Gears & Spindles
The heart of the grinder—the spindle and the drive gears—are manufactured internally to ensure superior run-out accuracy and longevity.
Software & Controls
We develop our own HMI and control software. Unlike generic milling controls adapted for grinding, our software is tailored specifically for the nuances of abrasive machining.
The Art of Kisage (Hand Scraping)
In an age of mass production, Okamoto preserves the traditional art of Kisage (Hand Scraping).
- Why we do it: While linear guideways are faster to assemble, hand-scraped slideways offer superior geometric accuracy, better oil retention for smooth motion, and unmatched long-term stability.
- The Process: Our master craftsmen painstakingly scrape the metal surfaces to micrometer-level flatness, creating a machine foundation that resists wear and maintains precision for decades.
Environment & Sustainability
Precision involves efficiency. Our latest generation of machines is designed to reduce power consumption and minimize coolant waste, contributing to a greener manufacturing environment without sacrificing performance.
